Cultural Product - For this project, I was tasked with choosing a creating cultural product to represent a country in order to generate a western based audience that may be unfamiliar with said product. I chose to pick India as the country to create my cultural product from. More specifically, I chose the exotic fruit from the Indian subcontinent known as Jackfruit.
The jackfruit is said to have religious properties in Hindi culture as the leaves of the trees itself can ward off evil demons by protecting those with jackfruit trees planted near their place of residence. With this in mind, I began sketching out a personified version of the jackfruit in relation to Hindi culture. However, I didn't necessarily like this design all too much so I voided this design all together and went with a different design made in the fashion of the Hindi "Ohm" symbol which is commonly referred to as the national symbol of Hinduism around the world.
Both the typography and logo usage within this brand are intended to be reminiscent of the spikey exterior of the jackfruit plant in order to better communicate the product to the consumers
The final product of the packaging consists of a jagged patterns that are both consistent with the identity of Hindifruit through the use of cultural and religious iconography and typography.
